Movenpick Hotel Deira scores first opening of 2011

Mövenpick Hotel Deira opened on January 1, 2011, bringing an additional 216 rooms to Old Dubai’s hospitality offering.

According to the hotel’s general manager, Michael Nugent, the hotel will fill a demand for affordable upscale accommodation in Deira from business executives and destination travellers.

“While the greater Dubai has been on a building boom, Deira’s hospitality sector has been somewhat stagnant and we mean to fill this void by bringing in some new blood,” said Nugent.

The hotel is located at the heart of Old Dubai’s early commercial district on the north side Dubai Creek.

“It is through the Creek that Dubai is able to attribute its success as the commercial hub of the United Arab Emirates and much of early Dubai’s infrastructure grew up on the banks of the Creek,” said Nugent.
