Marriott has decided to withdraw its pay-per-view adult content from new hotels.
The company is moving towards internet on-demand entertainment, a move that was highlighted by an analysts report warning investors in Marriott’s technology provider LodgeNet that one of its customers was implementing a new policy regarding adult content.
Marriott confirmed its decision, telling US daily USA Today that "changing technology and how guests’ access entertainment has reduced the revenue hotels and their owners derive from in-room movies, including adult content."
The company has more than 500 hotels currently approved or under construction and is the first major chain to introduce such a significant policy change regarding adult content.
It is understood that the abundance of personal connectivity and guest’s own sources of entertainment have taken a large bite of in-room revenue streams for hotels.
Hotel chains are now having to rethink strategies on business models for in-room revenue generating plans.
