Dubai bar to use St Patrick's Day for Japan aid

Hotelier Middle East Staff, March 14th, 2011

McGettigan’s Irish Pub at the Bonnington Towers Hotel will be using the week leading up to St Patrick’s Day to raise money for international aid charity Red Crescent (Red Cross).

Managing director of the Bonnington Hotel and McGettigan’s Irish Pub, Dennis McGettigan said, “I genuinely have been horrified by the events that are unfolding in Japan.

“We have a pub here that will be very busy for the week leading up to St Patrick’s Day so it is a perfect opportunity to show what a big heart the expat community in Dubai has. We hope there will be lots of money raised this week to help with the aid mission in Japan.”

There will be buckets available to collect donations in McGettigan’s Pub and at the end of the week whatever money is raised will be matched by the owners of McGettigan’s to double the total. On top of all that on 17th March - St Patrick’s Day, between 6pm and 7pm the bar takings for that full hour will be donated to the aid mission in Japan.

The week of festivities kicked off yesterday with a 'full-on traditional Irish music session' at the pub.

Highlights of St. Patrick’s Days at McGettigan’s include, the 'Lovely Girls Night', a ladies night with an Irish flavour (14th March) Declan O’Sullivan and his live music show (16th March).
