New Recruit: Mark Pey at Lufthansa

Monika Canty, August 7th, 2011

Introducing Mark Pey, the new country manager for Oman at Lufthansa German Airlines....

What is your career background ?
Throughout my career at the defunct Swissair, now called Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), I have held numerous posts such as: ground handling at Zurich airport (check-in, boarding, transfer desk, special assistance, load control); training (instructor for load control); ground operations (aircraft handling policies); sales executive for SWISS, Austrian Airlines, British Midland) and station manager at Zurich airport.

What attracted you to the role of Oman country manager?
Working in the airline industry has always attracted me. I see my role as country manager in Oman as an enhancement of my career while at the same time a challenge to represent Lufthansa and SWISS abroad (this being my first assignment abroad) and a personal enrichment to live and work in different surroundings (with new culture, language and climate, etc.)

What are your main objectives and responsibilities?
I mainly represent the interests of Lufthansa and SWISS in Oman with the clients, the trade, authorities, suppliers, competitors, media and the public.

How do you plan to work with travel agents in your role?
I plan to develop and deepen my personal contacts with travel agencies. I plan to be available, responsive and supportive to all travel agents needs. I plan to collaborate with travel agents to offer excellent services to our customers.

What will be your biggest challenge?
To keep and strengthen the market position of Lufthansa and SWISS in a very competitive market, given the wide option of air carriers to choose from including the Gulf airlines.

What are you excited about?
Aviation is for me the most interesting industry worldwide. It is and has always been an honour to work for one of the best airlines in the world. By being in this industry, I am part of future aviation trends, technology and developments.

What do you love most about your job?
No day is the same. My job is quite diverse. I also love the fact that I represent a part of Germany and Switzerland in Oman and have very interesting interactions and collaboration with our partners.
