Hotelier Middle East Staff, September 6th, 2011

Three people were hurt in a fire that broke out on the fourth floor of a hotel located behind Al Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah last week.

Firefighters found an Arab man, 65, an Arab woman, 31, and an Asian, 25, suffocating as a result of the thick smoke billowing out from the fire, according to sources at the RAK Civil Defence.

Guests were evacuated from the hotel as firefighters controlled the flames and prevented the fire spreading to other floors.

It is thought a short circuit in the electric meter room attached to the hall of an outlet on the fourth floor of the hotel had ignited the fire. Extra power supply from the generator had sparked the fire, sources said, according to a report in Gulf News.

The three injured were transferred to Saqr hospital to receive treatment. Meanwhile, the firemen continued extinguishing the fire.
