A 28-year old Emirati has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after he kidnapped and raped a Dubai hotel worker.
The defendant did not appear in at his first hearing at the Criminal Court of First Instance this month, according to reports in The National.
The court heard that the 28-year old unemployed Emirati stopped the 26-year old Filipina at a bus stop in Jumeirah in November 2010. He did not attend yesterday’s hearing.
He loweed the window of his Mitsibushi, claimed to be a Criminal Investigations officer and requested the woman’s identification. When she did not have her card, he forced her into the car and claimed to be heading to a police station, the newspaper reported.
The woman said that she begged him to take her to the hotel where she worked as a cleaner to grab her ID but he insisted on taking her to the station.
While they were in the car, records say, the defendant parked in an empty area in Jumeirah, then forced the woman to lower her seat. He then raped her before taking her back to the bus station.
She told prosecutors he took her mobile phone and stole AED 100 from her when he searched her bag.
"He took my number and said that he will call me if he needed to have sex with me again," she said.
She said she went to a friend's house, changed her clothes and went to work. After her shift, she reported the incident to police.
The defendant denied the allegations to police, saying she was his girlfriend and that the sex was consensual.
He said she asked him for a large sum of money after they had sex, but he gave her only AED 200 as it was all he had on him at the time.
The verdict is subject to appeal.
