Saudi Arabia is aiming to nationalise its  tourism sector in three years time, said the chairman of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) Prince Sultan bin Salman.

A report in the Arab News quoted the chairman at a conference titled 'Tourist Industry and its Impact on Reducing Poverty and Unemployment' as saying: “Tourism is one of the important industries which plays a big and significant role in providing job opportunities and alleviating poverty."

Sultan called for the involvement of  local communities in tourist projects and this would benefit both investors and the local inhabitants. “Tourism will generate more working opportunities and will stabilise the local society whose members would not need to migrate to big cities anymore."
