Farouk 'engineers' triumph at Hotelier Awards 2011

Wael Farouk from the Courtyard By Marriott and Marriott Executive Apartments Green Community, Dubai, won the awardfor Hotel Engineer of the Year 2011, sponsored by Elenco, at the Hotelier Middle East Awards 2011.

Judges said they were impressed with Farouk's ability to keep a cool head during a potential crisis, as well as complete a number of green projects within the hotel - a key to our sustainable future.

On receiving the award, Farouk said: "I’m very proud and feel that what I have done through the years has been rewarded. Two years back, I also won the award for Green Hotelier of the Year."

Revealing his secret for getting staff and managemenet involved in green projects, Farouk said: "The basic thing is to feel like one family, and I keep everyone accountable for the result. When you know the goal, you know how to get there. Everyone knows what their part is in toward achieving that goal in engineering and for the hotel." 

Sasidharan Gopalan from the Doha Marriott Hotel was named the highly commended engineeer in this category.
