Hotelier Middle East Staff, October 20th, 2011

Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea, Jordan general manager Bruno Huber was crowned Green Hotelier of the Year 2011 at last night’s Hotelier Middle East Awards, held at the Madinat Jumeirah Dubai.

Judges said Huber’s genuine love for nature and the environment had led him to become a pioneer in a wide range of green initiatives, producing results that spoke for themselves.

“Under Bruno’s leadership, the five Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts in Jordan became the first hotels in the Middle East to achieve Green Globe certification,” the judges observed.

The Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea received 96 points, the highest rating ever awarded by the Green Globe institution. His work also extends to social and employee sustainability, making Huber a visionary general manager and regional green leader.

"We’re very proud to have this award. When the Green Globe certification process came through we had about 500 criteria to fulfill then they gave us the 96 points – the highest in the world. I don’t know how we did it but the most important thing was the commitment of the entire team and it’s not just the environment – it’s the whole idea of sustainability, including helping the employees and the community," Huber said when he received the award.

Finalist Sean Harrison from the Madinat Jumeirah was highly commended in this category.
