Cairo faces worst December since '97 says Jaz CEO

Louise Birchall, November 30th, 2011

Hotels in Cairo could report a historically low performance in the fourth quarter as further unrest due to tensions between activists and ruling military councils continues in Tahrir Square.

I predict that December will be the worst December Cairo has seen since 1997, Ulrich Huth, chief operating officer of Jaz Hotels, Resorts & Cruises told Hotelier Middle East.

"Cairo business will not recover that fast. Tourists will probably be a little more careful now than they ever were but business travellers will be back mid-January, he said.

He predicted that given no major clashes happen during the election perdiod, business travellers and delagations would start visiting Cairo early next year.

"For Cairo to be back to normal I think will need at least six months after the new president will be in power."
