Qamardeen Hotel launches new guest chef menus

James Clarey, January 30th, 2012

Southern Sun Qamardeen Hotel’s Esca restaurant launched its new menus by guest Michelin-star chef Claudio Filippone on January 26 and January 27.

The Downtown Dubai restaurant’s set menu di Tavola, a-la-carte menu and family-style Italian weekend lunch menu have all been re-interpreted by the food stylist.

Chef Filippone’s menu di tavola features many Italian favourites – Minestrone soup, mains of beef, rabbit, chicken or lamb and desserts such as panna cotta zaferano and tiramisu legera. The opening night of the promotion also saw grape pairings by Italian viniculturists Torti.

The weekend lunch menu on January 27 included Tuscan bread salad, grilled artichokes, mussels gratin and deserts zuppa di inglese and zeppolle. The lunch, which is served to the table, was also accompanied by a buffet spread.

Bernd Geiger, complex executive chef at Southern Sun Al Manzil and Qamardeen hotels said: “The idea of inviting Chef Filippone to create the special promotional menus was to showcase the breadth of the Italian culinary repertoire and celebrate the cuisine of one of the world’s most exciting gastronomic destinations.

“Esca restaurant is keen to allow diners to experience more than the usual dishes one is accustomed to finding on Italian menus here in Dubai. By bringing more Italian chefs and their signature dishes to the city we hope to grant diners here the opportunity to enjoy a different – and more authentic – culinary experience.”

The four-course menu di tavola by Chef Claudio Filippone is available for AED 155 (US $42) and for AED 275 (US $75) when paired with selected grape beverages. The Esca Italian weekend lunch by Chef Claudio Filippone is available for AED 195 (US $53) or for AED 245 (US $67) with select grape beverages.
