Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has signed management contracts for 11 new hotels under development across nine countries.
Among the announced hotels is a 298-room property in Sharm El Sheikh, opening in April 2012 and a 380-room hotel in Marrakesh, scheduled to open in 2014 following a multi-million-euro renovation.
There are also two announced for Tunisia – a low-rise hotel in the desert resort of Tozeur in 2013 and a 255-room property on Djerba Island. Other openings are in France, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Thailand.
Jean Gabriel Pérès, president and CEO, said: “We have always believed in growth, but at a sustainable pace. In every region from Europe and Africa to the Middle East and Asia we have carefully consolidated our developments to maintain a balanced portfolio distribution that ensures decision-making is effective, resources are efficiently utilised and development is sustainable.
“A hundred hotels worldwide is a major achievement for our company and I am delighted. Such a landmark is a credit to the hard work of everyone at Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts,” he added.
The hotel chain now has 69 operational hotels, with 31 planned – of which, nine are set to open this year.
