London hotels prices jump during Olympics period

James Clarey, March 14th, 2012

Hotel room rates in London have more than doubled for the Olympics, a study from Hotels.com has found.

An average room in August is 102% more than the same time last year, when booking in March.

This price hike is more than the 4% price increase on average hotel prices worldwide for the same period, and brings the average rate in London to US $333.

The survey took 142,000 hotels into consideration in nearly 20,000 locations, and found that some countries had had a negative impact from both political turmoil and natural disasters. Room prices in Athens fell 10%, while in Hiroshima prices fell 16%.
