Ramada Ajman slashes staff turnover by 75%

James Clarey, March 19th, 2012

Ramada Ajman has announced that turnover of staff in its housekeeping department has been reduced by 75% in the past year after it introduced initiatives to increase staff wellbeing.

Akthar Shahid, executive housekeeper, told Hotelier Middle East that he has implemented initiatives such as six-month wage increments, interdepartmental training and bonuses.

However, he said that what has also helped is producing fresh bread in the hotel’s canteen. He said: “In our staff cafeteria most of our staff are Indian, and they like to eat fresh bread. No one is providing this fresh bread, so we make in house a bread-making tandoor, to give them fresh bread in the cafeteria. We give them complimentary bread to even take home for their families. They really appreciate it.”

He added that these measures were introduced after a change in management last year. “They have done so many things to improve and motivate the staff, making them happy. We like to promote staff rather than get people from outside, and our staff realise this and it motivates them.”
