Rotana's Egypt hotel performance still suffering

Abu Dhabi-based operator Rotana has said performance at its hotels in Egypt is continuing to suffer from the impact of civil unrest.

Speaking to Hotelier Middle East at GIBTM, Omer Kaddouri, COO of Rotana said rates at hotels across the country were  “very, very low rates”.

Rates in Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada hotels have slumped to as low as $15 – 20 per night, down from $45 – 55 a year ago, he said.

But Kaddouri was confident business was now starting to come back to Egypt.

“It will take some time for tourists to have that full confidence, but we feel that Egypt will come back stronger. By mid-next year we should see some improvement in the rate.”
