Rotana Jet has partnered with Anantara to offer 25-minute flights from Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen Executive Airport to Sir Bani Yas Island.
The service flies three times a week to the island, which includes Anantara’s Desert Islands Resort & Spa, as well as the Sir Bani Yas Island Stables and costs AED 200 (US $55) each way for adults and AED 100 (US $27) for children.
David Garner, regional director of sales and marketing, Middle East, Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas, said that “it’s opened up the accessibility to the island”. He added: “If there is a group that wants to go down to the island for the day to have an experience and have a fantastic lunch, it’s great. Where for AED 400 can you fly to from Al Bateen airport?”
The airline also has plans to expand in the emirates with further routes to be added, according to reports in Abu Dhabi newspaper The National, including to Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, as well as a route to Dubai being considered.
Rajendran Vellapalath, director of commercial and planning at Rotana Jet, told The National: “We are exploring now opportunities, especially from places like Northern Emirates - places like Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain, to connect people out of the international airports within the UAE.”
He added: “Between Abu Dhabi and Dubai will take a bit of time because we need to look at the various operational aspects. But between the rest of the emirates, we are planning to commence the operations very soon.”
