James Clarey, June 19th, 2012

Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) has relocated its head office from Bahrain to Dubai Airport Free Zone.

The move comes after three decades in its previous location, but signals the importance of Dubai as a regional business hub for the marketing and R&D company.

The UAE is the main Middle Eastern market for Australian red meat imports, with 28,804 tonnes being imported in 2011, with the figure for lamb imports standing at around 12,500.

In total for the Middle East, Australian red meat exports totalling 109,652 tonnes, up 2% year-on-year.

Rob Anderson, chairman, MLA, said: “This is a strategic move that reflects the strong trade bonds we have with the UAE and the importance of Dubai as a regional business hub. From our new headquarters, we will continue to strengthen our collaboration with all relevant parties in the Middle East and Africa, to serve local markets and ensure our premium quality products are supplied to the best satisfaction of all our stakeholders.”
