Emirates Culinary Guild wins gold in Beijing

The Emirates Culinary Guild team scooped gold at the first International Culinary Competition in Beijing, China.

The Madinat Jumeirah team, led by Chef Sebastian Nohse and made up of Merla Deloire, Bhatt Dwarika and Wasim Sheikh, were named Best International Team fighting off competition from the USA, Singapore and Peru.

“We are very proud of the team’s achievements,” said Chef Uwe Micheel, president of the Emirates Culinary Guild and director of kitchens at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek.

The Emirates Culinary Guild team comprised a group of chefs from the UAE which included chefs from the Majed Sabbagh Ladies Club, Dubai Grand Hotel and Ashraf Samad Iraqi restaurant, who also won a gold medal each.

Teams were tasked with cooking a four-course meal for 10 international judges at the event, organised by the East Eat Group, in front of a 10,000 strong audience.

“The biggest challenge was getting all the ingredients and necessary equipment,” said Micheel. We brought a lot with us, but not everything.”

Chef Bakayoko Mamadou of the Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek took part in an individual competition, for which he also picked up a gold medal for a dish influenced by his home country the Ivory Coast.
