Contemporary Arabic calligraphy will feature throughout Media One Hotel in Dubai throughout the holy month.
The hotel will host an exhibition by celebrated Emirati artist Maryam Khalifa Al Falasi in the lobby, capturing the elegance of the Arabic written word and its use in contemporary artwork while other pieces will decorate the hotel's The Med restaurant.
Al Falasi, a Zayed University graduate, uses various mediums ranging from basic drawing, painting and photography, and also incorporates digital art, calligraphy, linoleum and wood carving and web design.
Her artworks have been showcased across the region, with selected pieces being part of the private collection of HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed, in addition to being featured in HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's poetry book – 40 Poems from the Desert.
Mark Lee, general manager, said: “The Holy Month of Ramadan highlights the spirit of charity and togetherness. We are delighted to be hosting Maryam K. Al Falasi’s contemporary art and calligraphy exhibition as her abstractions are the expressions of a unique voice that breaks boundaries and speaks to an international audience”.
The images are on show from Sunday August 5 and the official opening will take place at 8pm on Wednesday August 8, when Al Falasi will be present to ask questions on her work.
The art exhibition will close on Thursday August 23.
