13 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW: Jumeirah Etihad Towers

The team at Jumeirah Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi got a little carried away when we asked them to provide 10 quirky and fun facts about the hotel this month, instead sending us 13.

Thankfully we’re all hotel geeks and can’t get enough of these bite-size snippets of weird and wonderful hotel info.

From news of edible handbags and ‘camelcinnos’ being served up, to the number of kilometres lobby lounge staff members cover in a day and the combined length of the hotel’s table linen, we’re sure this mostly useless information will keep you just as entertained as it did us!

1. Jumeirah at Etihad Towers quality Italian linen inventory includes 82 kilometres of table linen and 35 kilometres of linen napkins

2. Colleagues in the lobby lounge walk on average eight kilometres a day

3. Quest restaurant is the highest restaurant in Abu Dhabi and Rays Bar is also the highest bar in Abu Dhabi

4. Jumeirah at Etihad Towers has its own signature “Coffee Spice” which was created especially for the Abu Dhabi property by Germany’s Michelin-starred chef Alfons Schuhbeck. It goes especially well with the hotel’s “Camelccino”, which is a quality cappuccino made with camel’s milk.

5. One of Jumeirah at Etihad Towers’ most popular offerings is its signature Gourmet Fashion Cupcakes, which come in a range of decadent flavours, are available in the hotel Lobby Lounge and feature various designs of edible handbags and the latest fashion trends.

The latest line of Gourmet Fashion Cupcakes available on the epicurean catwalk are its designer shoe collection.

6. Photographic art works of Abu Dhabi in the 50s and 60s that are featured in Jumeirah at Etihad Towers’ guest rooms are from His Highness Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan’s own private art collection and provide a local Emirati and historically connecting touch.

7. Nahaam restaurant was given its name from the local Arabic name for the professional singer and leader on traditional Emirati pearling boats. The Nahaam was assigned to keep the divers entertained and was the most important sailor after the “Nokhada” or captain.

8. Jumeirah at Etihad Towers is home to an eclectic and staggering range of quality dinning ware and other such items including: 96,000 pieces of cutlery; 56,000 pieces of glassware; and 165,000 porcelain items.

9. The marble featured in both the Lobby elevator and Conference Centre elevator areas is actually an extremely rare array of petrified forest from the Seychelles.

10. Jumeirah at Etihad Towers sparkles like a jewellery box with its Oculus installation in the expansion pre-function area of the conference centre which weighs 12 tons of handcrafted crystal and glass and features 140m₂ of flat glass, more than 250,000 crystal components and 12,800 artistically hand-blown glass components. Installation took 12 weeks.

11. Doris Greif, the General Manager of the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers hotel, is the only female hotel general manager in Abu Dhabi.
