James Clarey, August 29th, 2012

Nils Axing has been appointed as the new general manager at Fairmont Bab Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi.

The new GM joins the hotel with more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, beginning as operations manager at Scandic Hasselbacken Hotel in Stockholm in 1992.

Two years later, Axing joined Grand Hotel Stockholm, and held a variety of roles, culminating in becoming general manager in 2004, and finally CEO of the Grand Group Stockholm in 2006.

In 2010, Axing moved to Intercontinental Amstel Amsterdam as general manager, and now comes to the Middle East to oversee the 369-room property.

“We are delighted to have Nils at the helm of our company’s flagship property in the capital city, especially during a time when the Fairmont brand grows from strength to strength in the United Arab Emirates,” said Fairmont Hotels & Resorts regional vice president - UAE, Henning A. Fries.

Axing studied economics at the University of Uppsala, and business accounting at The Stockholm School of Economics, as well as holding certificates from Cornell University, including in food and beverage and hospitality marketing.
