Graffiti community inspires Burger Rebel interior

Casual dining joint Burger Rebel in Wafi City Dubai is on the hunt for a graffiti artist to jazz up its interiors.

The 100-seater restaurant is running a competition for university students and young aspiring artists to create the venues signature look prior to its opening on 19th September 2012.

“We are the culinary force behind the next food revolution in the Emirates, freeing diners from the expected as we radically overhaul the traditional burger. We want our decor to reflect the fact that Burger Rebel is unconventional, a free spirited lifestyle brand that appeals to the rebel in all of us - essentially that touch of individuality we crave in a corporate branded world,” said Daniel During, principal and managing director for Thomas Klein International, Burger Rebel’s owner-operator.

With three prizes of AED 4000 (US $1090) up for grabs, entries are already flooding in. The city’s budding artists have until 5 September to submit proposed designs with the winners selected by a judging panel comprised of Burger Rebels’ team of original media and marketing specialists.

"Graffiti has been around since cavemen shared illustrations of their daily lives and Romans ‘tagged’ building walls in conquered lands. It’s the ultimate form of self-expression for the street artist community around the world and Burger Rebel is giving a voice to Dubai’s youth – and their message – in an unconventional urban setting, where we hope to bring together artists of all genres to meet, eat, talk and share ideas and ideals," added During.

Designs must embrace the Burger Rebel manifesto and entries should be submitted by email to adrian@thomaskleingroup.com along with a list of material requirements. The competition is open to individuals or teams of up to five people from university students, art students and young artists to amateurs.
