In a global survey of five-star hotel hiring managers in 2010, market research firm Taylor Nelson Sofres conducted a market survey of hospitality employers regarding their opinions of the top 10 hospitality management schools.

The potential respondent database comprised of more than 50,000 hospitality professionals working in more than 70 countries.

1. Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland
The Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne (English: Lausanne Hotel School), was founded in 1893 and is recognised as the world's first hotel school.
EHL continually updates its programmes to meet the service industry's ever-changing needs and boasts incredibly close ties with the Swiss and international hospitality industry, to the point where employers participate in the internship and recruitment processes.
The school believes that while the science or business aspect is of the industry is important, learning the ‘art’ of management is also essential. This school offers a 13-month hospitality masters of business administration (MBA), a four-year bachelor's degree in international hospitality management and a two-year hospitality diploma. Students may choose between classes taught in French or in English.

Joint Second: Les Roches International School of Hotel Management, Bluche - Switzerland
Les Roches is building a superb international platform for hospitality education in the world, with campuses in Switzerland (Bluche / Crans-Montana), China (Shanghai), Spain (Marbella) and Jordan (Amman).Les Roches offers six academic programs, including a three-year Swiss Hotel Association hotel management diploma, a four-year bachelor of business administration degree in international hotel management and a one-year master of business administration degree in hospitality management. Joint Second: Glion Institute of Higher Education, Glion & Bulle, Switzerland
Glion is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The institute was founded to cater to the boom in tourism alongside the dawn of the age of the major hotel chain.
It began with just 15 students in 1962, humble beginnings compared to the 1600 students it now trains and educates.
The Glion Institute Governing Board includes the owner of Star Hotel in France, a director of Webster University in Geneva and the dean of the University of Rhode Island in the U.S.
Its advisory board consists of professionals in key positions in the service industry, and it has 50 full-time and 27 part-time faculty.
Glion offers hospitality management programs at undergraduate, graduate and post graduate levels. The school considers applicants' academic records, work experience, extracurricular activities, test scores and letters of recommendation before admission.

Joint Second: Cornell University, USA
Founded in 1922 at the request of leading hotel magnates and the American Hotel Association, the Cornell School of Hotel Administration has a rich history.
The founders wanted to create a first-rate academic institution providing a field of study for the ‘science’ of running hotels and restaurants.
It began with 21 students under the direction of a single professor, Howard B. Meek.
In 1927 Ellsworth M. Statler, a self-made millionaire who founded the largest hotel chain of his day, was persuaded to attend the second Hotel Ezra Cornell (HEC) conference organised by the Hotel Department students. When he arrived on campus, Statler was skeptical about the programme as he believed individuals interested in a hospitality career could be better served by on-the-job training than by classroom learning. By the end of the weekend, however, he said, “I’m converted. Meek can have any damn thing he wants”.
As the only Ivy League (top US University) programme in hospitality management, the school offers a curriculum that addresses all of the aspects of running a business - strategising and planning, design and construction, financing and marketing, as well as management and operations.
Its world-renowned faculty members are at the cutting edge of developments in the industry and alumni are more often than not extremely successful executives and entrepreneurs.

5. Hotelschool The Hague, Netherlands
Hotelschool The Hague was founded in 1929 by HORECAF, the employers’ organisation in the hotel and catering industry. Since its foundation, the Hotelschool has become an international school specialised in hotel management offering a four-year international Bachelor’s degree course.
This degree course is also available as a two-year International Fast Track programme. Since October 2001, the Hotelschool offers in collaboration with Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) Erasmus University a one-year Masters programme in Hospitality Management.
In July 2002 Hotelschool The Hague became a member of ‘The Leading Hotel schools of The World’, and in September of that same year it opened a second campus in Amsterdam.
A small, autonomous and independent institute with approximately 1900 students, graduates from the Hotelschool have careers in hospitality companies around the world.

With a 30 year strong experience, Hotel School Vatel boasts 31 hospitality schools across the globe preparing around 7000 students a year for the rigours of the hospitality industry.

10. Ecole Hôtelière de Genève, Switzerland
École Hôtelière de Genève, Suisse (English: Geneva Hotel Management School, Switzerland ) is a private hospitality school founded in 1914 offering Higher Diplomas in hotel management. The Diploma is certified by the Ministry of Education of the Canton of Geneva and recognised officially by the Swiss Government.
In 1914, a school focused on the restaurant and hospitality trade was formed at Neuchâtel Gastrosuisse.
In 1951, the school moved to 12 Avenue de la Paix, in the mansion that housed the teacher and founder of the modern comic book, Rodolphe Töpffer.
The school became the Hotel School of Geneva in 1996 and has since made great strives to offer a premium education in hospitality management.
