InterContinental Doha appoints general manager

InterContinental Doha has appointed IHG stalwart Andreas Pfister as its new general manager, as well as Cyril Mouawad as its new director of sales and marketing.

Pfister joins the hotel after spending 22 years with the group, having previously held the same position at InterContinental Hua Hin Resort.

Since 1990, when he joined IHG as a reservation clerk at InterContinental Geneva, he has worked in seven different countries, including Germany, England, India and Luxembourg.

Between 1998 and 2001 he found himself being promoted at Forum Hotel Munich from front office manager until, finally, he became director of sales and revenue and regional coordinator for South Germany.

“[It is] great to be in Doha and work in a fast moving country with so many different nationalities. Being here the first couple of days my family and I are very much looking forward to settling in and connecting to all local flavours,” Pfister said.

In 2007, Pfister opened InterContinental Beijing Beichen as general manager, in preparation for the Olympic games. The following year the property was awarded the title Best New Opening Hotel in North China by Golden Pillow Award.

Mouswad has also been appointed to the hotel after joining the group in 2002 at InterContinental Beirut, following an education in hotel management and tourism.

“Mouawad’s primary role will be to strengthen our relationships with our key business partners and the community, whilst effectively representing the strong InterContinental brand throughout the Middle East,” said InterContinental Doha resident manager Gilles Nicolas.
