SOCIAL MEDIA: The best five hotel blogs

Former hotelier and social media pro Martin Kubler, founder of Dubai-based iconsulthotels, picks out five of his favourite hotel and restaurant blogs in the business. 

1 Table 9 (Dubai):

Not a blog in the more traditional sense, i.e it doesn’t stand alone, but is part of the restaurant’s website. However, it’s well done and features engaging and tasty posts that allow readers to see ‘behind the scenes’ of this restaurant.

2 Ace Hotel (US):  

Awesome design and perhaps the best Tumblr-based hospitality blog I’ve seen to date. This blog is great fun to browse around and uses strong imagery to make you fall in love with the brand.

3 Le Meridien Mina Seyahi (Dubai)  

This used to be one of the first (perhaps even the first) hotel blogs in the region and was really nicely done and informative. Sadly, though, it doesn’t seem to be updated anymore.

4 Hotel Rival (Stockholm):  

I like this one a lot, because it very cleverly ties into Stockholm’s tourism marketing strategy and provides readers with useful information about the city and tips for things to do. The link to the hotel isn’t very apparent, but click on many of the links and you’ll see how it all comes together. Thanks to its tourism and city info focus, this blog captures a lot of traffic from users searching for things to do in Stockholm, many of which, in turn, end up on the hotel’s website.

5 The Roger Smith Hotel (New York):  

Perhaps the artiest of all hotel blogs. The blog seamlessly connects the hotel with the city’s thriving arts scene, provides info, opinions, and referrals to the hotel’s website, all the while looking very stylish.

Honorable mention: McGettigan’s Irish Pub (Dubai):  - a good, local, example of ‘topic monopolisation’ – search for anything Irish or St. Patrick’s Day-related in Dubai and chances are, you’ll come across the McGettigan’s blog and, in turn, McGettigan’s itself
