Shangri-la Dubai welcomes four trainees to team

Hotelier Middle East Staff, December 9th, 2012

The Shangri-la Dubai recently welcomed four new team members through its participation with the UAE Down Syndrome Association (UAEDSA).

Saif, Mahmoud, Youssef, and Abdulla, along with an occupational therapist, join the Shangri-la staff for an hour each week working on a tailor-made plan to develop new skills and gain hospitality career experience.

Each of the special trainees works across different departments, such as hotel engineering, culinary, housekeeping, and training, including towel and linen folding, administration, flower arranging, and beverage preparation.

“We’re delighted to embrace Saif, Mahmoud, Youssef and Abdulla into the Shangri-la family,” said Shangri-la Dubai hotel manager Eric Mommejac. “They are an asset to the hotel and have been a great help in all departments. It is a pleasure to have them training with us.”

The Shangri-la Dubai has supported the UAEDSA since 2009. Previous activities include an iftar meal for UAEDSA children and their families and a sponsored golf tournament.

Their involvement with the organisation is one facet of the hospitality brand’s company-wide corporate responsibility project. In this programme, Shangri-la employees have the opportunity to participate in the Caring People Project, designed to promote education and health support in underprivileged communities. The company also grants employees time-off to volunteer for eight hours per month.
