Emirates Airline to add capacity on Ghana route

Emirates Airline said on Tuesday it will increase capacity on its Accra-Dubai route from January 1 due to growing passenger demand.

The Dubai carrier said in a statement that it will upgrade the aircraft used on the service to a Boeing 777-300ER, less than a year after launching the route.

The upgraded aircraft will increase passenger capacity by almost 41 percent on the flights to the city in Ghana, the airline added.

Jean Luc Grillet, Emirates senior vice president Commercial Operations for Africa, said: “Ghana is one of our most important markets so we are constantly seeking ways to enhance our services, while responding to solid demand.

"The aircraft upgrade will open up more seats to our customers travelling to and from Ghana and further raise Emirates’ contribution to Ghana’s economy," he said.

In addition to carrying more passengers, the operation of the new aircraft will also have a positive impact on Ghana’s import and export industry.

The Boeing 777-300ER has a cargo capacity of 23 tonnes, which means businesses will benefit from an additional 56 tonnes of weekly capacity on the route.

Emirates currently serves Accra daily, with an A340-500 aircraft offering 258 seats in a three class configuration.

Emirates has a fleet of 191 aircraft and are the world’s largest A380 and Boeing 777 operator, flying to 127 destinations in 74 countries.
