Tenders invited for $1.1bn Ajman tourism plan

Tenders have been invited for the first phase of a AED4bn ($1.1bn) tourism project in Ajman, which will include five-star hotel accommodation, a theme park and golf course.

Eight large UAE construction companies were invited to submit their bids for the the luxury Al Zorah Resort by January 17, said a statement.

At a recent meeting of Al Zorah Development Company's board, members approved the offering of the first tender to implement two five-star hotels, the statement added.

Stretching over an area of more than 100,000 sq m, the resort will include 154 rooms, private suites and villas, in addition to four restaurants and a spa.

Al Zorah Resorts is billed to become an exclusive tourism destination on Ajman's northern coast, with the waterfront frontage spreading over 12km, including a mangrove area with a nature reserve rich with birds and fish.

The infrastructure works have been awarded, and the work on the road linking the project with Emirates Road project has been completed, the statement said.

Projected to be completed in summer of 2015, the first phase of the project includes luxury hotel accommodation, a pedestrian walkway surrounded by restaurants, cafes and shops and a beach club.

The first phase will also include a theme park called Mangrove of the World.

A golf course and clubhouse, apartments and villas will also be built as part of the first phase of development, the statement added.

The luxury Al Zorah Resort was designed as the crown jewel of the AED220bn Al Zorah City development, Ajman’s largest project, but was suspended after the collapse of the emirate’s real estate market in late-2008.

Some 70 percent of the development, a joint venture with Beirut’s Solidere International, will comprise of tourism and leisure facilities.
