Work on upgrading Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 1 will begin this quarter, the facility has announced.
When complete, the terminal will be linked to Concourse D via a new elevated train. Concourse D is expected to be finished in 2015.
Refurbishment of the airport’s biggest terminal, which caters mainly to international airlines, will include the replacement of all check-in desks, the upgrade of baggage systems and the “modernisation of all public areas”.
In addition, a new baggage screening system will reduce the time it takes for passengers to get to their departure gates, as well as allowing for an expanded departures hall, the airport said.
The terminal’s arrivals hall will also be expanded, with new food and retail outlets, while the arrivals area forecourt will be reconfigured to improve traffic flow.
