Dubai Municipality’s Food Control Department has just launched the iFood initiative to raise awareness of food safety.

Announced at Gulfood, the initiative is aimed at making it easier to distribute food safety information and constantly evolving food safety regulations by uploading the documents on to iPads in the municipality centres.

“This system contains all types of data such as import and export of food, food safety regulations and services, halal food requirements, food additions and more,” said Eng Khalid Mohammed Sherif, director of the food control department.

The initiative is a part of the municipality’s goal to automate most of its services.

"The iPad system will allow us to send required data via email to many customers which will ensure we are reaching them directly. It also helps to reduce paper use, saving expenses for the municipality,” he added.
