TIME green team scoop twin awards

Jacqueline Daly, May 2nd, 2013

Two of TIME Hotel Management’s properties have been awarded Green Globe Certification.

The UAE-based hospitality firm confirmed that both its TIME Oak Hotel & Suites in Al Barsha and TIME Grand Plaza Hotel in Al Qusais achieved the certification following a seven-month project to ensure the stringent global Green Globe sustainability criteria were met.

Headed by a designated ‘green team’, the project concluded with MENA sustainability consultants and auditors, Farnek Consultants, conducting an audit of each property to verify the green measures executed met GGC standards.

The green initiatives adopted by TIME management ranged from energy-saving lighting and installing an ‘energy consumption monitoring and benchmarking system’ to supporting community and charitable events.

According to vice president Mohamed Awadalla, the stringent standards will be maintained at both properties. “The ‘Green Team’s’ mission for 2013 at TI’ME Grand Plaza Hotel is to reduce water and energy consumption by 2%, general waste by 2% and CO2 emissions by 2%, all compared to 2012,” he said.

“At both properties, we now conduct sustainability awareness training for department heads on a weekly basis and for all staff on a monthly basis in order to ensure that we not only continue to meet Green Globe criteria, but improve on them wherever possible.”
