Firefighters tackle blaze at Marriott Jeddah

298 guests and employees were evacuated from the Marriott Hotel in Jeddah following the outbreak of a fire on the second floor of the building, reports Saudi Gazette.

The fire which broke out inside a dressing room of a health club was quickly tackled by firefighters. According to Brig Turki Al-Harthy, director of the Jeddah Civil Defence, it was limited to one room only with no resulting injuries.

Six squads of firefighters, an ambulance, and a fire truck rushed to the hotel once the alarm was raised. All guests and workers were returned to the hotel after the fire was extinguished and power returned to the building.

In a statement to Hotelier Middle East a Marriott International spokesperson said: ““The health, safety and security of our guests and associates is always our primary concern and not for compromise. We are always focused on taking great care of our associates so they can in turn take great care of our guests.

“As you would expect from a company of Marriott’s standing, we have excellent procedures in place to manage all situations including those which are accidents or matters of health.”
