The general projects department of the Dubai Municipality has announced the Holy Quran Park, a AED 27 million ($7.4m) public park project expected to open in September 2014.
The 60-hectare theme park, located in the Al Khawaneej area has been designed with an Islamic perspective to narrate the miracles mentioned in the holy book.
The multimillion dollar park will feature the 54 varieties of plants mentioned in the Quran, which will be planted in different areas of the park. The plants are intended to encourage visitors to think about the reason they were included in the Quran.
Facilities at the park will include an Islamic garden, children’s play areas, an Umrah corner, outdoor theatre, fountains, a desert garden, palm oasis, as well as separate running and cycling tracks.
Initial work on the park is complete and stage two of construction is expected to begin in July 2013. Stage three will begin in August 2014 and is expected to be completed in September the same year.
