Magnolia Bakery is set to open its first store in Abu Dhabi, its fifth in the Middle East, at The Galleria Al Maryah Island in August 2013.

In addition to its comprehensive dessert menu, Magnolia will offer a savory menu at the Abu Dhabi location.

"Magnolia Bakery is a luxury brand that has been embraced by the Middle East as evidenced by our success in Dubai,” said CEO and owner Steve Abrams in a statement.

"Because of this and the region’s enthusiastic interest in Magnolia Bakery, we have chosen the Middle East as our first area of international expansion. We are excited to bring Magnolia Bakery to the UAE capital and look forward to opening many stores throughout the country."

The new bakery will be located in The Galleria Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi, which is a 33,000 sq m retail and dining space.

The iconic New York City bakery lauded for launching the "cupcake craze," opened its first overseas outlet in Bloomingdales Dubai in 2010.

It is planning to ramp up its global expansion and is eyeing 120 stores worldwide over the next five years.
