Abu Dhabi's Municipality is planning to build a new 'urban Oasis' within the densely-packed downtown area of the E6 sector.

The facility will be one of several new combined retail and community centres being planned across the city that are set to be delivered by private sector bodies. However, visuals for this two-phase, 19,000 sq m building also show that it will feature a large rooftop garden and extensive greenery within upper parking areas.

The Municipality said that it will invite bids from developers to build and operate the new centre within the next few weeks. It said that several other 'urban oasis' projects are planned for other parts of the city.

A study carried out by the municipality found that the E6 sector is currently home to around 13,000 residents living in 2600 apartments.

Rashed Bin Ali Al Omaira, an advisor on investments and assets for the municipality, said: "The innovative design of this new project will enable the Municipality to address the need to provide a wide range of public facilities in a constrained and highly-populated location.

"The green space and recreational and retail facilities will enhance the image of the City and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors, while at the same time reducing traffic congestion and boost car parking.”
