HH Sheikh Mohammed green lights DM projects

UAE vice president, prime minister and ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has reviewed and approved six new projects by the Dubai Municipality.

Projects include the development of the Mamzar cornice beach, which will add 60,000 sq m to Dubai’s public beaches. The project is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2014.

The Dubai Municipality will also begin work on the Maritime Museum, which will cost an estimated AED 35 million (US $9.5mn) to build.

Another project approved is the Mini World Park, which will house mini replicas of monuments from around the world such as USA’s Empire State Building, the Roman Colosseum, the Acropolis of Athens and Malaysia’s PETRONAS Towers among others. The park will also feature models of natural monuments such as Australia’s Ayers Rock and Canada’s Niagara Falls.

Work will also begin on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library, which will accommodate one million books on display with an additional 1.2 million books in storage. The seven storey building will have a total area of 50,000 sq m.

HH Sheikh Mohammed also approved plans for the Hatta Housing Project to provide homes for UAE nationals in the Hatta area. According to the Dubai Municipality, a total of 302 housing plots will be built on 375,000sq m of land.

Work will also begin on the second stage of the sewage water treatment plant in Jebel Ali, which is expected to be completed by December 2016. The 41,000 hectare plant will serve 2.25 million people.

Plans for a methane gas extraction projects, called 2020, will also go ahead to extract methane gas from the land fill in Qusais, which which mitigates 250,000 tonnes of methane gas per year.
