30% of restaurants found flouting rules in Ramadan

The Dubai Municipality has cracked down on 30% of food establishments in the emirate for flouting rules related to the display and sale of food outside the premises during the month of Ramadan.

Dubai Municipality Food Control Department's head of food inspection section Sultan Al Taher said in a statement: "We circulated the safety and hygiene instructions to all the food establishments doing their business in Dubai before the month of Ramadan.

"For checking if they were implemented we carried out inspection in the first week of Ramadan during which we found 70% them practiced what we instructed."

He added that the remaining 30% were in violation of the regulations and were asked to cease operations until the requirements were fulfilled.

"Out of this 30% were found guilty, most of them were running business without proper permit from the municipality while few of them failed to comply with the health requirements they need."

The team also inspected Ramadan tents and 90% followed the rules with regards to safety and hygiene.

These tests are being carried out throughout the month of Ramadan, and the public has been urged to notify the civic body about any violations at 800900.
