The first Thai Fruit Promotion was launched in Dusit Thani Dubai this month in the presence of Ambassador of Thailand to the UAE, H.E Warawudh Chuwiruch, who said that more than 20 varieties of Thai tropical fruit are available in UAE restaurants and supermarkets.
"As a leading organic-food-producing country in Southeast Asia, organic fruits from Thailand are becoming a popular export, said HE Chuwiruch.
"Thailand enjoys a year-round tropical climate with no extreme temperatures and only a few ‘dry’ months which means that pretty much anything grows all year round. Many Thai fruit growers are also turning to organic agriculture, serving the growing health consciousness and environmental concerns of consumers around the world," he added.
The event is aimed at raising awareness of Thai produce overseas and introducing the wide variety of fruits available directly to consumers. The promotion also aims to collect feedback from diners enjoying the Thai fruits, enabling the Department of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand to better support the tastes of the UAE market.
From September 15 2013, a selection of eight varieties of fresh fruits from Thailand are being distributed to participating Thai restaurants in Dubai, who will offer guests complimentary fresh cut fruits with their meal.
The participating restaurants included: Benjarong, Dusit Thani; Blue Elephant, Al Bustan Rotana Hotel; Chimes Far Eastern Cuisine, Al Barsha; Royal Orchid Restaurant in Festival City, Marina Walk and Business Bay; Sabaldee Thai & Turkish Restaurant, International City; Sea World Seafood Restaurant, Asiana Hotel & Al Safa; Shang Thai, SZR' Spice Emporium, The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi; The Kitchen of Thai, JLT; Tom Yum, Dragon Mart; The Royal Budha, Holiday Inn; The Thai Kitchen Restaurant, Park Hyatt Dubai' and Tong Thai, JW Marriott Marquis.
Diners will be offered a short questionnaire to complete on their familiarity with Thai fruits, which will enter them into a lucky draw to attend the Amazing Thailand Food Festival at Dusit Thani Dubai on September 30, 2013.
Heading the delegation in Dubai for the Thai Fruits Festival launch, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives Thailand inspector general Supaporn Pimoonlikit said: "The UAE represents an important export market for Thai fruits and other agricultural produce, demonstrated here today by this high level delegation from Thailand. One of our objectives of this promotion is to introduce customers to the wide variety, quality and taste of Thai fruits, and we have brought over two thousand kilos of fresh fruits to Dubai to give away during the festival."
