The Dubai chapter of the AICR, an association of front office managers and assistant managers of 4 and 5 star hotels, has named Tarryn Adams from the Raffles Dubai hotel as its ‘Receptionist Of The Year’.
Adams was awarded the title at a gala dinner at the JW Marriott Marquis hotel, as well as a top prize of AED 15,000 (US $4085) after competing against five fellow hoteliers at the competitions grand finale at the Radisson Blu Media City Hotel, Dubai.
Speaking after coming to their decision, AICR Dubai president Fabian Schmittmann said: “Tarryn performed consistently well throughout each round of the competition, impressing us with her natural calmness and reassuring smile. Repeatedly, she just simply captured the jury’s attention with her eloquently told stories. In the role play she seemed to genuinely care for the “guests” she was dealing with, while still calmly evaluating the situation and taking bold decisions.”
A record 36 candidates from four and five star hotels from across Dubai competed for the Receptionist of the Year 2013 title, with two preliminary rounds whittling down the pack to the final six who were then subjected to a series of tough questions and role plays in order to impress the panel of judges from across the city’s hospitality industry.
Competing is however not over yet for Tarryn, who will now travel to Hamburg courtesy of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) to represent AICR Dubai in the International Receptionist of the Year competition.
