The Moevenpick Hotel Bahrain has been awarded with Green Globe certification for the third year in a row after being recognised for its environmental initiatives.
In recent years, Moevenpick Hotel Bahrain has adopted a sustainable management approach which includes a waste recycling program as well as a system to decrease utility consumption.
Moevenpick Hotel Bahrain chief engineer Amal Fenando states: “Our aim is to reduce and optimize the energy conception, by reducing water consumption, better management of waste and chemical use.”
Currently, the hotel recycles up to 76% of its waste which includes paper, metal and glass. In addition, excess food from their various outlets are donates to a local animal care centre.
The hotel takes a four-pronged approach to their environmental consciousness focusing on lowering its impact on energy, water and waste as well as increasing support to local charities, which will be a priority for the group going into 2014.
The global certification recognises global hospitality companies for their efficient sustainability performance yearly. In order to attain the certification hotels must meet over 350 environmental, social, cultural, quality, health and safety criteria.
