David Edgcumbe, December 8th, 2013

The number of occupied hotel rooms in Ajman increased from 186,500 in 2009 to 602,033 in 2013, according to a report published by the Ajman Government.

Other figures released show that the emirate has increased its hotel portfolio from nine in 2005, to 27 today, while hotel revenue has grown at an average annual rate of 14 percent, reports The National.

However, figures also revealed that tourism accounts for less than six percent of the Ajman economy, with 37 percent of the local economy still dominated by the manufacturing industry.

Overall, real GDP increased by 4 per cent, placing the emirate’s growth rate close to the UAE’s overall rate of 4.4 per cent in 2012.
