Parinaaz Navdar, December 16th, 2013

Al Bustan Palace, A Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Muscat, Oman, has launched a ‘voluntourism’ initiative called Give Back Getaways for hotel guests.

Part of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company’s global Community Footprints, the new programme offers complimentary half-day activities such as scenic walks through Al Qurum National Park, bird watching, tree planting, mulching, watering, invasive plant removal, and other activities. The activities also include visits to mangrove nurseries, where guests are encouraged to plant mangroves.

The Ritz-Carlton, Al Bustan Palace general manager Bernard Viola said: “The Ritz-Carlton has built a legacy of extraordinary service over decades. This tradition extends to our Community Footprints program and positively impacts the lives of others, and the Give Back Getaways are a great example of how we can both enjoy the environment and help sustain it.”

The activities are supported by Oman’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs and guests receive Community Footprints shirt, caps and group photo at the end of the programme as a souvenir.
