Hilton Abu Dhabi received the Hilton Worldwide Eco Award 2013 for its commitment to eco-friendly and sustainable initiatives.
The hotel’s environmental conservation efforts include recycling and energy efficient waste management, and it was recognised as the most sustainable Hilton hotel in the MEA region in a ceremony attended by Hilton Worldwide Arabian Peninsula vice president of operations Christian Grage, and Hilton Worldwide director of engineering operations MEA Vinesh Hurrychurn.
Over the course of the year, Hilton Abu Dhabi was awarded points for its team members’ sustainability related efforts, which included participation in awareness programs, community events, training and LightStay compliance – a tracking tool to measure sustainability performance across all Hilton Worldwide properties.
Throughout 2013, Hilton Abu Dhabi team members initiated several eco-projects including tree planting, beach and desert cleaning, recycling challenges, educational awareness for in house guests, and celebrating international sustainability days such as World Car Free Day and Earth Hour. Hilton Abu Dhabi’s Hiltonia Beach Club also received the Blue Flag Award, a beach certification for sustainability, safety and cleanliness.
Commenting on the award, Hilton Abu Dhabi general manager Wolfgang Maier said: “We are extremely proud to have received the Eco Award for the MEA region. Sustainability is very important to us as it is a core element of Hilton Worldwide’s global commitment to protect and conserve the environments in which we operate. We are proud that our team’s hard work and dedication have been recognized and we will continue to lead by example by creating a culture of environmental consciousness at Hilton Abu Dhabi.”
Launched by Hilton Worldwide in 2013, the award is part of Hilton’s Eco Rewards Sustainability Campaign and involves all Hilton Worldwide hotels in Europe, Middle East and Africa. The campaign aims to recognise hotels whose team members are making the most active and impactful contributions to environmentally-friendly operations.
