A man armed with a hammer has attacked three Emirati women who were staying at the Cumberland Hotel in Marble Arch, London.

The man entered the seventh-floor room where the three UAE nationals and three children were sleeping, according to police accounts in various media reports.

Scotland Yard said the attack occurred shortly before 2am on Sunday and a hammer had been recovered from the scene.

The suspect is believed to have hit the three women - all in their 30s - about the face and head with the hammer.

One woman is said to be in a critical condition and The Met is said to be treating the attack as attempted murder.
