Burj Al Arab to offer weddings in the sky

Jumeirah Group’s Burj Al Arab is to offer couples the opportunity to get married on its iconic helipad 212 metres above the Arabian Gulf – at a minimum price of AED200,000 (US $55,000).

Each ceremony will be specially designed by a wedding architect who is responsible for every detail,

Among the services on offer will be arrival at Burj Al Arab by air in an Italian twin engine Augusta 109 or by road in a Rolls Royce Phantom and accommodation in one of the hotel’s 202 suites.

Couples will also get beverage sampling and advice from Burj Al Arab’s head sommelier Dimitar Dimitrov and private sessions with celebrity personal trainers in the hotel’s Talise Spa. Executive pastry chef Johannes Bonin will consult on the wedding cake design, structure, flavour and composition.

Burj Al Arab general manager Heinrich Morio said: “We’re always looking for new and special ways to delight and enchant our guests. We believe a once-in-a-lifetime event deserves a one-of-a-kind venue and are thrilled to add this special location to our ultimate experience collection.”

The Burj Al Arab helipad has become one of the hotel’s defining features since its opening in 1999 and has played host to a number of eye-catching events and publicity stunts.

In 2004 Tiger Woods teed off the helipad and the following year Roger Federer and Andre Agassi challenged each other to a game of tennis there. In 2011 Rory McIlroy performed a hole-in-one from the helipad pad and last year Formula One Champion David Coulthard executed donuts in a Red Bull Racing car.
