The Cove Rotana Resort, Ras Al Khaimah has hosted a fundraising dinner at Italian restaurant Basilico to help raise money for Ras Al Khaimah Animal Welfare Centre’s move to a new facility in Al Hamra.
More than 50 supporters and volunteers attended the event and collectively raised AED40,870 (US $11,127) through silent auctions and raffle draws. RAK Ports Group also donated AED20,000 (US $5,445) towards the fund.
Cove Rotana general manager Andreas Mueller said: “We are thrilled to support the Ras Al Khaimah Animal Welfare Centre, not only to provide a new safe shelter but also in providing for the daily needs of the neglected dogs and cats, and taking their story out to as wide an audience as possible. We also hope to raise awareness about the welfare of animals and how to care for them.”
The RAK Animal Welfare Centre was set up in 2010 to rescue abandoned and abused dogs and cats in the emirate. The centre relies heavily on support from volunteers for fundraising and help with the day-to-day running of the shelter.
RAK Animal Welfare Centre communications manager Maureen O Dwyer added: “This event has been an encouraging start to the long journey we have ahead to achieve our goal to move to Al Hamra. We are both inspired and delighted by the support from the community here in RAK. We thank The Cove Rotana from the bottom of our hearts.”
