Kempinski Bahrain gets EarthCheck certification

Parinaaz Navdar, June 11th, 2014

Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel Bahrain City Centre has been awarded bronze status by environmental management, benchmarking, and certification company EarthCheck.

EarthCheck measures key indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production, and community commitment to provide an all-inclusive picture of operational performance.

Kempinski Bahrain was at or above best practice levels in environmental policy, water saving rating, waste recycling rating, community commitment, cleaning products rating, and pesticide products ratings.

The process involved submitting a year’s worth of operational data between January 2012 to December 2012 to EarthCheck, which was then compared with industry data collected from more than 1300 organisations in more than 70 countries.

Explaining the hotel’s practices, Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel Bahrain City Centre general manager Puneet Singh said: “We’re very proud to be recognised by EarthCheck and we’re committed to our planet earth. As another sign of our commitment to the environment we participated in the Earth Hour in March and decided to continue with the initiative on a monthly basis.

“Every last Saturday of the month we observe the Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lights and electronic equipment in the public areas of the hotel. We also donate our left-over food to a local animal shelter on a daily basis. We believe every little action counts.”

EarthCheck CEO Stewart Moore commented: “I am delighted that Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel Bahrain City Centre have benchmarked their operations. They have recognised the need to be responsible for the impacts of their operations and transparent in their environmental statements.”
