Katara launches refurbished Peninsula Paris hotel

Parinaaz Navdar, June 25th, 2014

Qatar-based Katara Hospitality has launched The Peninsula Paris, which will officially open on August 1, 2014.

The Peninsula is the 14th operational hotel in Katara’s portfolio of 26 hotels around the world.

Located in the 16th arrondisement, in close proximity to the Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees, The Peninsula Paris was fully renovated to transform it into a modern hotel while still maintaining its architectural heritage.

Katara Hospitality chairman His Excellency Sheikh Nawaf Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al-Thani said: “The Peninsula Paris is set to become one of the world’s landmark hotels, a real icon not just in France but across the world. The work of the last years has restored this ‘grande dame’ to her rightful place as one of the world’s leading hotels.

"Our investment in The Peninsula Paris marks another example of our commitment to the French market.”

Katara Hospitality partnered with The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels to invest in the refurbishment of the hotel. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the opening in Paris, a spokesperson for Katara commented: “It has been a long journey, together with our partners at The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels. We are proud to reach our first destination, with the launch of the hotel, and we look forward to the path into the future, helping to establish this as a true global destination.

“As it now enters the operational phase, The Peninsula Paris is set to become a centre for Parisian style, offering the best in design, luxury and comfort. We are proud to be associated with this fantastic project."

Restoration of the Peninsula Paris was led by Richard Martinet of Affine Architecture and Interior Design, while the interiors were designed by Chhada Siembieda & Associates’ Henry Leung.

Katara Hospitality’s other operational hotels are located in Qatar, France, Switzerland, Egypt, Singapore, and Thailand. Another 14 properties are under development in The Maldives, Morocco, Switzerland, Italy, Qatar, The Gambia, and The Comoros.

The company has set a target of 30 properties by 2016, with another 30 by 2030.
