Ivor Prestwood has joined the team at Intercontinental Abu Dhabi as the new general manager, following the departure of his predecessor Dieter Franke, who has taken over as GM at Intercontinental Nairobi.

Prestwood brings more than 39 years’ industry experience to his new role, and will be in charge of maintaining the hotel’s reputation in the capital.

Prestwood began his career with InterContinental Hotels Group in 1974 at InterContinental London Hyde Park. He has since held a number of managerial positions across IHG hotels, including InterContinental Manila, InterContinental Sydney, and InterContinental Oman.

He has also worked at the group’s flagship hotels, including Crowne Plaza Kuwait, Holiday Inn Urumqi China, and Crowne Plaza Sheikh Zayed Road.

Prior to joining InterContinental Abu Dhabi, Prestwood was general manager at Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi, where he developed the food and beverage offering at the hotel.

Commenting on his new role, Prestwood said: “It is a real honour to be joining the iconic InterContinental Abu Dhabi located in one of the most rapidly developing tourist destinations in the world. I very much look forward to working with and leading a great team of well-experienced hospitality professionals in continuing to provide the perfect service and quality facilities for which InterContinental is globally renowned.”
