Shaheen Nouman, December 29th, 2014

Mikado Café has opened in Al Khalidiya, Abu Dhabi, introducing Japanese dishes infused by western and European ingredients. The café offers baked goods, desserts, homemade mochi ice creams, traditional Japanese teas and a sushi bar.

Head pastry chef Angelica Brioschi and head baker, chef Yoshio Nishiyama bake breads and pastries daily, including savoury Japanese loaf bread and rice powder loaf bread, or sweet green tea biscuit bread and almond chocolate croissants.

Mikado also features a selection of Japanese infused desserts, like Matcha Roll Cake, Dorayaki and Yuzu Tart.

Teas for the cafe have been sourced from the Shizuoka and Makinohara regions of Japan and Bancha to complement sweet and savoury items on the menu.

Executive chef Fabio Nakazato has spearheaded the savoury menu, with a selection of sushi, sashimi and maki options.

Mikado Café is Al Sayegh Group’s brainchild; the group aims to create a home-grown concept for the needs of UAE residents.

Commenting on the opening, Al Sayegh’s group executive director Mansour said: “It is our vision to bring finest Japanese bakery and menu items to the capital and expand across the region. With a collaboration of esteemed chefs, authentic recipes and seasonal ingredients we are set to provide guests with an unparalleled culinary experience.”
